Marrakech, Morocco -- On January 20, 2025, the High Atlas Foundation (HAF) will mark its 12th Annual Tree Planting Day, a nationwide event uniting communities in a commitment to environmental sustainability. The initiative will span nine regions across Morocco, including Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Fez-Meknes, the Oriental, Beni Mellal-Khenifra, Casablanca-Settat, Marrakech-Safi, Draa-Tafilalet, Guelmim-Oued Noun, and Laayoun-Sakia El Hamra.

This year’s planting event will bring together farmers, students, children, and women, engaging in planting activities on lands provided by local authorities, associations, schools, universities, and cooperatives, reflecting HAF’s dedication to fostering collective action toward a sustainable future for Morocco.

Since the planting of its one-millionth tree in January 2014, HAF continues the cherished tradition of tree planting, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability. This event focuses on planting a variety of tree species from HAF-community nurseries, including olive, carob, almond, cherry, walnut, fig, and pomegranate. The species are carefully selected by farming families for their resilience to local conditions, supporting biodiversity while enhancing the region’s ecosystem.

The event will be hosted with the support of several key partners, including the National Agency for Water and Forests, the University Mohammed I in Oujda, Students of the Legal Clinic, DPA/ONCA/Associations, Park National of Khenifra, Cooperatives and Schools.

HAF is committed to promoting environmental sustainability through its tree planting program, encouraging local participation in protecting Morocco's natural resources. This initiative empowers communities by restoring the environment and individuals, schools, and local organizations to come together and create a positive impact.
