In July 2021, Zineb Elgasmi and Theodor Maghrak, volunteers with the USAID-funded Farmer-to-Farmer program, visited the Ahl Rhoufrane cooperative. They facilitated training with the members of Ahl Rhoufrane Cooperative in agricultural project management, technical skills, and business strategy. After these sessions, Alh Rhoufrane decided to focus on selling goat products.

Since then, Ahl Rhoufrane has made a name for itself in the Rhamna province, successfully selling dairy products like milk and yogurt to locals. With ambitious goals for growth, they’ve recently received a government grant for $1,000 to invest in a new species of goat for their herd, which will expand their offerings with cosmetic and medicinal products.

One of Ahl Rhoufrane’s greatest accomplishments, however, is their success in inspiring and equipping others to start their businesses.

“It wasn’t that hard to get all the papers done and submit them to the authorities,” shared Yassine Rhoufran, president of the cooperative. “I encouraged my friends to create agricultural and artisanal cooperatives for the benefit of the community, and I found myself delivering workshops on how to create a cooperative and how to submit the necessary papers to the authorities.”

15 new cooperatives were launched as a result of these workshops, highlighting the value of community leadership in sustainable development.
