An Informative Training for Agricultural Development and Sustainability

On May 4th and 5th, 2026, I had the opportunity to attend a two-day training session in Rabat at the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA). The training brought together representatives from the Regional Directorates of Rabat and Meknes, the Agricultural Advisory Offices of Meknes and Khemisset, and staff from Crédit Agricole Bank.
The training focused on several important themes related to agricultural development and sustainability. One of the key topics discussed was the integration of women into the workforce, particularly rural women. Emphasis was placed on the importance of enhancing women’s participation in agricultural activities, as this sector still lacks sufficient female involvement. The sessions highlighted practical strategies to empower women and improve their role in rural economies.

In addition, a technical session was conducted by Dr. Bchour, who provided valuable insights into soil analysis. This included understanding soil composition, evaluating soil fertility, and determining whether soil is rich or poor in nutrients, which is essential for improving agricultural productivity.
Another important component of the training was a workshop on water management led by Mr. Larbi Didouqen. This session focused on water conservation techniques, including the traditional “Khettara” system, and it explored modern and innovative methods for collecting and utilizing rainwater efficiently.
The training also addressed the introduction of modern and innovative agricultural machinery, particularly tools adapted for small-scale farming. These technologies aim to facilitate and accelerate harvesting processes, save time, and increase efficiency for farmers working on limited land areas.

Finally, representatives from Crédit Agricole Bank conducted a workshop on investment strategies. They provided guidance on how to invest in agriculture in a rational and effective way, ensuring sustainability and profitability.
The training was highly informative and provided practical knowledge across multiple areas, including gender inclusion, soil management, water conservation, agricultural innovation, and financial planning. It was a valuable experience that will contribute positively to improving agricultural practices and supporting rural development.
