During the celebration of the 13th Annual Tree Planting Day at the "Bab Ghmat" Children’s Home in Marrakech, the vision of the High Atlas Foundation (HAF) was clearly demonstrated. The milestone of planting 6 million olive trees across Morocco is not just a response to environmental challenges; it is a long-term commitment to providing rural communities and the youth with the resources they need to build their own futures.

The choice of the olive tree is significant. Known for its longevity and resilience, it reflects the spirit of the High Atlas Mountains as they recover from natural challenges like earthquakes and droughts. By involving the children of Bab Ghmat in this community planting initiative, we are doing more than teaching agriculture; we are fostering a sense of responsibility and hope. Every tree planted represents a step toward a green economy and environmental stability.

This milestone, achieved through over 25 years of HAF’s work on the ground, goes beyond traditional reforestation. It is part of a holistic ecosystem that supports women’s empowerment, food security, and social justice. In these projects, every tree becomes a productive asset that helps reduce dependency and strengthens community ties through shared work and cross-cultural dialogue.

The Rising Roots Morocco program—implemented by the High Atlas Foundation (HAF) and supported by The Big Heart Foundation—believes that the future is built through action. These 6 million trees stand as evidence of the Moroccan people’s ability to transform challenges into sustainable wealth. They are living testimonies to a commitment that will provide food, environmental protection, and self-reliance for decades to come.
