Where We Belong : A Community Mapping Journey

"When we know where we belong, we know who we are."
— Brené Brown
Belonging is more than just being present in a place, it’s about feeling connected, creating shared experiences, and growing alongside others. At ENCG Beni Mellal, this sense of belonging is at the heart of our school life. It’s not only a place where we come to learn; it’s an environment where friendships are built and memories are made.
During our recent "Cartographie de nos projets communautaires" (Mapping Our Community Projects) workshop with the High Atlas Foundation, we had the chance to reflect on this deeper connection with our school. The trainers started with an introduction to the community mapping concept, a tool used to visually explore how we interact with the spaces around us and how those spaces influence our experiences, behaviors, and emotions.
Each team created a map representing the school environment through their own lens, explaining how they see and experience the spaces around them and highlighting where they spend most of their time, where meaningful moments take place, and how these places influence their daily life and relationships on campus. When we came together to present our work, we discovered many common points, places where most of our activities happen, and where our daily paths often cross. That moment of exchange was deeply enriching: it helped us realize how space is lived differently depending on one's needs, background, or even personality. This activity also opened the door for many ideas on how we could improve our school environment and how small initiatives from students and clubs can have a big impact on student well-being and collective energy.
The most beautiful part of this workshop was the discussion that followed. Through everyone’s perspective, we realized that what makes our school special isn’t just the physical spaces, but the atmosphere we create together. It's the laughter shared during breaks, the group projects that turn classmates into close friends, and the events where we come together as one big family called ’The National School of Business and Management’ .
We would like to warmly thank the High Atlas Foundation for organizing this inspiring workshop, and the trainers Mr. Abdelhadi Laaboudi and Ms. Souad El Khadiri who led and animated the session with such energy and care. Their guidance allowed us to see our campus with new eyes, to engage in a new way with our environment, and to strengthen our sense of belonging as students and as a community.
This experience reminded us that ENCG Beni Mellal is more than classrooms and corridors, it’s a vibrant community where every student contributes to the story. And as we continue our journey, we carry with us not only knowledge but also the memories and bonds that will last long after we graduate.
