Morocco is the land of olives. One of the activities of this week was planting olive trees. Guided by experts, we learned the proper techniques for planting the trees. We met people who shared their stories about their lands and how they started olive farming. I learnt that the origins of olive trees play an important role in knowing the special care they need to grow. Each tree we planted symbolized sustainability, and its effect will last for many decades.
After the olive tree planting, we shifted our focus to composting. We added water and organic materials, repeating the same steps multiple times to create the right texture. Through these actions we are contributing to our environment.
We also watched Our Planet, a documentary that never fails to inspire me and gives a detailed look at animal life on our planet. The powerful storytelling highlighted the beauty of earth's ecosystems and the unfortunate effects of human activities on animals and their way of living. We shared our insights on the documentary and thought of all the acts we do that are harming our planet.
Public speaking is an essential skill, and our practice session was a chance for us to express our ideas and receive feedback from one another.
Visiting a beekeeping farm was a wonderful experience. Learning about a bees' world is fascinating; the way they work in harmony and each playing a role. The owner explained the roles within the hive; what was wonderful to know is that some bees live outside to protect their community. Witnessing this miraculous journey of bees was very unique.
Another important day was volunteering as part of HAF´s earthquake relief and recovery program. We packed hygiene products for families affected by the earthquake. It was physically tiring, but the intention to help kept us motivated. It was a collective effort, filled with compassion and the need to have a positive impact on people.
Finally, we spent a day exploring different types of trees, from lowland areas to the heights of mountains. It was fascinating to discover a tree that thrives only in high altitude environments. The whole trip we were surrounded by the mesmerizing beauty of the mountains. I felt a deep connection with nature. We also visited two nurseries where we got to see different types of trees and plants.
The week was a journey of learning, connecting with nature and people, and giving back to the community. I am looking forward to more memories and meaningful actions.
