Ouaouizert Nursery Program

The Ouiouazert nursery project first took off in 2014, when local cooperative “Modern Unity for Production of Olives” reached out to the High Atlas Foundation.

This nursery is solely used for distribution and is one of the strongest suppliers for the High Atlas Foundation. From January to March 2017, twelve-thousand almond trees have been distributed to initiate new projects throughout Morocco.

Predominantly planted with olive and almond trees, HAF has donated walnut trees into the nursery mix as well. Amongst the HAF trees are a blend of spices and flowers blossoming, which local villagers come and gather for site maintenance. Said and his son Hicham, two local Amazigh people from Ouiouazert, are HAF’s official site maintenance workers. Above: Said and Hicham walking nursery grounds an early Sunday morning.

HAF works in partnership alongside Modern Unity for Production of Olives for distributing olives around Morocco, as well as the farmers within the beautiful Ouiouazert community. The local farmers are tasked with creating products from the donated olives and their trees. The goal of the High Atlas Foundation is to provide the farmers with their very own trees, so they can continue co-operative business with Modern Unity as well as produce their own olive products and enhance food security.

The High Atlas Foundation is committed to improving food security efforts throughout Morocco by subsiding fruit trees to create localized sustainable economies. For more information regarding our community empowerment efforts, please visit the High Atlas Foundation’s Nursery page for a full list of ongoing projects.
