The Consular or Christian cemetery

following cleaning and restoration in the Christian cemetery(EN) The Essaouira Christian cemetery was established around 1745. First a cemetery for foreign consular staff, it was reassigned to the city of Essaouira by France.

Walking along its paths, from grave to grave, a piece of the the past of Essaouira-Mogador lays before our eyes. There are a jumble of consuls and vice-consuls of Germany, Spain, Great Britain. A French surgeon Marrakech Dr. Jean-Pierre Valette, who died and was buried in Mogador on 9 August 1912... Another French doctor, Dr. Adrian, Marcel Bouvet, who was well-known and loved by all Mogadoriens. Whatever the religion or social status of his patients, he was appreciated for his kindness and availability, whether in his work in the city or in the hospital. He was the doctor foe everyone. On his death on 22 June 2012, a crowd gathered as he approached his final resting place: Muslims, Christians and Jews side-by-side, crying and bowing to his grave to pay their last respects and offer a final thanks.

before cleaning and planting actions
